Fire Weather Index โ Danger Rating
The FWI is a unitless index combining fuel moisture and wind. The left half of each map marker shows the danger class.
| Class | FWI Range | Meaning |
|---|---|---|
| Low | 0 โ 8 | Fuels moist, spread unlikely |
| Moderate | 9 โ 17 | Some fire activity possible |
| High | 18 โ 32 | Rapid spread, control difficult |
| Very High | 33 โ 49 | Intense fire, suppression limited |
| Extreme | 50+ | Crown fire conditions, evacuate |
Head Fire Intensity โ Byram Class
HFI (kW/m) is the energy output at the fire front from FBP. The right half of each marker shows the intensity class. Click any marker for the kW/m value.
| Class | HFI (kW/m) | Meaning |
|---|---|---|
| 1-Low | < 10 | Direct attack with hand tools ยท Should anchor |
| 2-Mod | 10 โ 499 | Direct attack with hand tools ยท Should anchor |
| 3-High | 500 โ 1 999 | Direct attack with pump and hose ยท Should anchor |
| 4-VH | 2 000 โ 3 999 | Indirect attack ยท Direct on less intense area ยท Must anchor |
| 5-Ext | 4 000 โ 9 999 | Indirect attack ยท Direct on less intense area ยท Must anchor |
| 6-Cat | โฅ 10 000 | No direct attack โ evacuate structure zone |
Station Network
Click headers to sortLive observations from Alberta fire weather stations (CWFIS WFS + AEF network). SRC shows the data source โ CWFIS uses the pre-computed FWI carry-over chain; SWOB is real-time MSC sensor data with Van Wagner calculation; NWP is Open-Meteo model output used when live observations are unavailable. HFI CLS is the Byram intensity class derived using the station fuel type. Click any row's station name to jump to its detail page.
